The Royal Launceston Show 2005
Cattle Judging

The cattle are in the shed that is usually used for the weekly market.

I wanted to get a sample of each breed, but I only have two or three photos to pick from, so the quality isn't that good on some (esp. the black ones, black is not a good colour to photograph). The photos on the previous page are a Murray Grey (being shaved) and a row of Herefords.

Guernsey, one of the few dairy breeds there.

Santa Gertrudis, a beef breed developed in the US from a Shorthorn and Brahman cross.

Santa Gertrudis with calf

Lowlines, a small beef breed developed in Australia, from Angus. It's easier to handle & apparently more efficient than the bigger breeds.

Charolais, originated in France.

Minature Herefords

Belted Galloways

Murray Grey, an Australian beef breed, developed from a Shorthorn Angus cross.

Hereford, a English beef breed originally from Hereford. Hereford and Angus are the most breeds locally.

Another Hereford.

Highlands, a Scottish breed. The long horns aren't very noticable in this photo.
