  1. Hannah Reece [ my gggg.mother] took over the license of the Half Moon Inn in June 1835 after her husband John’s death. The following year Henry Reading took over. Hannah disappeared without trace after that, no deaths registered. Anyone got any knowledge of what happened to her after 1835??

    • Sorry, I only just found this comment. For some reason it didn’t appear on the comments page.

You have checked to see if she remarried?

      • yes, I did look for a remarriage, but there are suspicious circumstances here as this signing over was in May 1836. By November 1836 her youngest son Matthew was registered as born in either 1829/30 so we feel whoever gave that information did not know details. It says the parents were Hannah and John Reece [late publican]. No records have ever been found of her death anywhere, but of course it was before full records were kept I know. Matthew went to Vic. and S.A. where he settled. We would love to know what happened to Hannah. John appeared to have been a heavy drinker before his sudden death at 47. He had been a soldier in the 40th Foot Reg.and served in Tas. from 1824-29 after 14 years in the 40th. Any clues would be very welcome. Thank you.

        • Hi Natalie. I’m a Rees from Matthew’s family and have also been puzzled by the lack of information regarding Hannah. There are quite a few of us chipping away at our tree so who knows something may pop up in time. If you would like to connect in any way my great grandad is Henry Ross Harvey Rees just to show the connection.
